I had the opportunity to speak with the student body about wisdom in Chapel on Thursday. “Get Wisdom” is our student life theme for this year and is based on the first stanza of our motto: Wisdom More Than Knowledge. I believe wisdom comes when experience combines with knowledge. Those experiences can be difficult, but we are always wiser on the other side.
I am in my 19th year at Darlington School. Year after year, I get to witness Darlington teachers care for their students and push them to limits they didn’t know they could achieve. The experience may be difficult at times. We will encourage and support when needed. In the end, our goal is to encourage our students to learn with passion in order to gain wisdom as they graduate from our great school.
If you have not listened to the Wisdom More Than Knowledge episode of The Darlington Podcast, hosted by Student Body President Atlas Kosedag, I encourage you to check it out here. This episode gives great insight into how wisdom is gained at Darlington.
A new cell phone policy in the Upper School has already shown some promising dividends. Comments from faculty include everything from how we are seeing more face-to-face interaction to a more positive mood in general amongst the student body. It’s a work in progress, but we like where it is going.
For years, student life has considered a freshman retreat to complement the senior retreat. This year’s “Fresh Fest” did not disappoint, and included Darlington trivia, dodgeball, and some quality time getting to learn house traditions led by senior leaders.
We are looking forward to a busy month ahead with a visit from J. Tom Morgan to discuss how Georgia State Law is applied to teenagers (read more in the spotlight below), the senior retreat returning to Camp Skyline, and the Homecoming football game and dance.
As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
