English Teacher, Upper School

Mallory Collier has taught Upper School English since 2022 and serves as head girls’ lacrosse coach. She holds a B.A. in English from Berry College and an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University. At Berry, she played lacrosse and held numerous student work positions within the college’s athletic department.

AI in Education: An English Teacher's Perspective

In the past year at Darlington, I've been working on finding the best way to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) in my lessons. I teach English, and at first, I was worried about using AI because I thought students might use it to cheat or complete their assignments. I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make sure AI wouldn't be a way for students to avoid doing their own work, but using it as a resource.

Professional Development Spotlight: Georgia Education Technology Conference

Thanks to a generous grant from the Thatcher Faculty and Staff Development Fund, I was able to attend the Georgia Educational Technology Conference last year. As a first-year Darlington faculty member and first-year librarian, I was eager to gather as much information as I could from school library media veterans. Many of the ideas I incorporated into Darlington’s Upper School Library throughout the year were from seeds planted at GAETC. I knew that I wanted to attend again in 2023 — and this time, I had the opportunity to write the grant myself and explain just how valuable my experience at the conference had been.
