Students in the advanced studio classes created nature drawings using conté crayons, a material named after Nicolas-Jacques Conté, the French scientist who invented this medium in the late 18th century.
In creating these works, students in the Art 1 class were observing contours and values and making design choices as they painted with India Ink. By reducing photographs to purely black or white, they have created a visually interesting graphic. Future galleries will showcase the same images using a subjective color palette.
At the virtual fall 2024 awards ceremony for the Georgia Scholastic Press Association (GSPA), Darlington's Jabberwokk yearbook earned the All-Georgia distinction, distinguishing the yearbook as the best in the state. The Inkslinger literary magazine was also recognized, earning a Superior rating, improving on its 2023 Excellent designation and winning a near-perfect score in the critiquing process.
Communication Arts students attended the JEA/NPSA National Convention in Philadelphia, where they expanded their view on student journalism and learned more about yearbook best practices through sessions and workshops.
Our Upper School Band applauds Will Bowerman for making this year’s District VII High School Honors Jazz Band. A sophomore day student who has been playing trumpet in Darlington’s band program since fourth grade, he is the first Darlington band member to make this honors band at the high school level.

Students in pre-K through second grade participated in the 2024 Art in 3D Discover Day provided by the fine arts department. Students experienced a discovery of cause and effect in the three areas of music, visual art and storytelling.

8 of the Concert Choir students chose to take a day and go to UGA for their high school Choral Day on Tuesday Sept. 24th. This was a day of all things vocal music including solo vocal performances, choral rehearsals, and choral performances from high school students as well as collegiate level groups. One of the videos is of 1,000 people performing a song called Measure Me, Sky all together. A truly magical moment!
