Let’s get to know John Courtnay, a four-year boarding student from Atlanta who appreciates the worldly experience and understanding he has gained as a member of the boarding program.
When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
International, friendly, success
What song reminds you of high school?
“All the Small Things” by blink-182
What's your favorite show to binge watch?
I don’t watch tv shows, but my favorite movie is “Scarface.”
What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Ana’s by the River
What house are you a member of?
Moser
What are you involved in?
Tennis Academy, Business Club, Darlington tennis team
If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
Mr. Tunnell is such a nice guy and very involved with me and my family outside of tennis which is great.
What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The Lake, because I like to fish and it’s a pretty place.
Who's your favorite teacher and why?
I really like all my teachers but my favorites that are still at Darlington are Mrs. Perkins and Mr. Shorey. Super smart people and always great to talk to about things other than school.
What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
International presence and overall prestige that comes with attending Darlington
Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
Not necessarily a specific experience, but having people from all over the world has made me much more worldly and expanded my understanding of others. But from an experience standpoint, without Darlington’s international presence, I wouldn’t have been to Germany to visit my best friend every year.
What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I've become much more self-sufficient by having to live on my own away from my parents. I’ve built much more proficient social skills and confidence. In terms of athletics, my tennis game has exponentially improved over these 4 years.
What is your dream job?
Entrepreneur and CEO of a sales company in a certain industry
