In this special series of Darlington Connects blogs, we are excited to share the inspiring stories and impactful work of those in our Darlington Community who embody Darlington’s mission of Service Beyond Self. Today, we learn more about the Beck family and their fifth-generation business, Heritage Sleep Concepts.
This past fall, Jordan Beck ('14) celebrated his 10-year class reunion by the Lakeside, but his connection to Darlington began long before that. Over the years, Jordan and his family have remained actively engaged at the school, making a positive impact on campus and throughout the Rome area and beyond.
“Being a part of the Darlington Community means a great deal to our family,” shared Jordan. “It represents tradition, strong values, and a commitment to excellence in both academics and character. Darlington has played a significant role in shaping who we are today.”
Today, Jordan is the chief operating officer of Heritage Sleep Concepts, his family’s fifth-generation business. Alongside his brother, Jamie Beck (’16), who serves as vice president of operations, and their parents, Kristi and Frankie Beck, the family continues its legacy in mattress manufacturing that spans over a century. The company, which has previously operated under names like Lovell Mattress, Sanford Mattress, and Spears Mattress, oversees every step of production in-house and has remained a cornerstone in Rome for generations.
For Jordan and his family, their business is about more than day-to-day operations—it's centered around fostering lasting relationships and making meaningful contributions to the community. “We make it a priority to build genuine relationships, stay involved in our community, and look for ways to contribute beyond just our job roles,” Jordan explained.
This commitment to service extends to Darlington, where Jordan has stayed involved since his graduation. He has contributed in various ways, including serving on the Young Alumni Council, chairing the first Giving Day campaign, participating in the Purple Tie auction, and representing Hampden-Sydney College at Darlington’s College Fair. A special highlight came in June 2024 when Jordan and his wife, Ali, exchanged vows at Darlington's Morris Chapel.
Heritage Sleep Concepts has also supported Darlington throughout the years, donating mattresses for the boys' and girls' dorms. Jordan emphasized the importance of a restful night’s sleep, noting how it helps students excel both in the classroom and on the athletic field. “We take pride in staying connected and giving back because we truly value the lifelong relationships and strong sense of community that Darlington fosters,” he said.
Jordan’s connection to Darlington has also influenced his professional life. He has maintained close friendships with many classmates and their families, while also forging new connections, which he says has led to valuable business opportunities. “I reconnected with Taber Wood, a fellow Darlington alumnus who is now VP of sales at CT Nassau, a ticking and fabric supplier,” Jordan explained. “He helped us create a custom fabric for our hand-tufted Silhouette Collection.”
The mattress industry, like many others, has undergone significant changes following the pandemic. “The lessons I learned at Darlington—adaptability, problem-solving, and resilience—have certainly played a role in how we navigate challenges and continue to grow in an evolving market,” Jordan said.
As a leader, Jordan reflects on how the values instilled in him at Darlington continue to shape his work at Heritage Sleep Concepts. “Darlington’s emphasis on service and honor strongly align with our core values,” he explained. “We believe that success is built on trust, just as Darlington teaches its students. We’re dedicated to providing high-quality mattresses, caring for our customers, and ensuring a great experience.”
Jordan also encourages fellow alumni to stay connected with Darlington. “There are so many meaningful ways to give back and stay engaged," he said. "Whether it’s attending alumni events, supporting initiatives like Giving Day, or volunteering as a speaker for student events, the opportunities to contribute are endless.
“Darlington is more than just a school—it’s a lifelong community,” Jordan added. “Staying involved here helps keep that connection strong for generations to come.”
