Students in the Art 1 classes used a repeated letter, positive/negative space, and pattern to create black and white design pieces. The choice of letter and its use in the space established a range of mood varying from order to chaos, depending on the effect the student wished to achieve. While some students used patterns similar in shape to their letter, others preferred to provide variety through a contrasting-shaped pattern. This simple exercise focused on creating work that reflected the student's artistic voice.
