Congratulations to Kate Willerson ('29), baritone saxophone; Raven Whitner ('29), drum set; and Benson Wei ('29), piano, for being selected for the GMEA District 7 Middle School Honors Jazz Band. We also congratulate Will Bowerman ('27), trumpet, who made the High School Honors Jazz Band after his audition in early October.
These students represented Darlington at the Honors Jazz Band Festival Nov. 18-19 at Heritage High School in Ringgold, Ga., where these students rehearsed late into the night on Monday and all day Tuesday alongside talented jazz students from other schools in our district. After a little over a day of practice, these ensembles performed a jazz concert on the stage of Heritage High School.
Kate, Benson, Raven, and Will were able to work with a few great guests conductors who put some challenging parts in their folder. These leaders learned a tremendous amount from those around them and their conductors. It is competitive to be chosen for these district-level honors band, and we're proud of Kate, Raven, Benson, and Will for completing the festival!
