4th Grade Wampum Belts

Wednesday, November 13, 2024 | By Carrie Watterson | 141 views

Fourth grade concluded their study on early Georgia Native Americans with a wampum belt project. Students learned about how the Cherokee used wampum belts to communicate information and make treaties with other tribes. Students then designed and weaved their own wampum belt using colors and symbols to represent their lives. After completing the belts, students reflected on the project with a four-paragraph essay describing the process and what they learned. We ended the project with a "Wampum Belt Ceremony" to display and explain our work!
