Artists throughout time have learned to paint by studying and duplicating existing paintings. Students chose a painting that they admired, used color theory to match the colors and observed and duplicated the technique the artist used to paint the original work. As an introductory lesson, this is an academic approach to painting and provides a more varied approach to technique.
