First-graders enjoyed creating holiday gnomes with a lesson in 2D vs. 3D artwork. Students viewed and were inspired by the 3D ceramic holiday gnomes made by the middle school Visual Arts class, and determined the simple shapes that were used to create them. Students applied this knowledge to draw a 2D version of a holiday gnome. The class discussed repetition and implied line when drawing the beard and color and pattern when designing the hats. Markers were used to complete this project.
