Second Grade “ROC”ked Learning All About Bones

Tuesday, October 25, 2016 | By Jess Peer | 847 views

The second grade class got a special visit from Dr. Justin Dunn from the Rome Orthopaedic Group and his wife Jessica Dunn. Together, the Dunns taught the students all about bones, joints, ligaments, tendons and more.

Students were enthusiastic about seeing models of bones, ligaments, and even a knee replacement. Dr. Dunn shared his knowledge of the different types of bones in our body, why they are important and how to best take care of them. Mrs. Dunn brought with her a cast, boot and sling that students were able to try on and test out. To wrap up the day, students used bone shaped candy in a fun math activity. Students needed to graph the different shapes of bones, tally them, and also compare the bones using their knowledge of greater than and less than. Finally, students were able to put on the new ROC t-shirts they had received and eat all of their bone candy. It was a "BONE-a-fide" great day!
