The All-Stars made Roman military shields, discussing first the meaning of each symbol—a red background representing Mars, the god of war, lightning bolts for Jupiter, king of the gods, and eagle wings to represent Rome. The children then practiced turtle formation, orb formation (protecting their most important officer Mrs. Guth in the middle), and wedge formation, breaking the enemy lines of Mrs. Guth and Mr. Merriam. The children also researched the vast area that the Roman army conquered, and used globes and maps to figure out which modern day countries they had invaded.
