Programming Robotic Toys in 1st Grade

Students in Ms. Alexander's first-grade class decided they would like to build their own toy! They learned about Hummingbird Robotic kits, watched videos, then brainstormed together.

Next, they learned design process and each sketched their own design. They highlighted what movement they would like to do, how it would light up, and what materials they would use. They then got in their groups and pitched their toy to their group mates. Each group voted on which toy they would like to develop. The students built the toys, learned about Servos, and explored programming with CREATE lab visual programmer. They then programmed their toy to move, light up, and play sounds!

Last, they presented their toys at Barnes & Noble during the Book Fair. These are some very smart young makers!
