Sophomore Kylan Ferrell and junior Sara Jo Pierce have been selected to attend the 2026 Youth Lead Georgia Summit July 16-17 in Athens, Ga.

Participants will convene to identify and discuss issues facing Georgia’s youth, build relationships with peers from across the state, and develop leadership skills as they explore the University of Georgia's campus. Ferrell and Pierce are two of approximately 160 students selected from more than 330 applicants across 81 counties in Georgia for this program.

"I’m hoping to gain leadership, communication skills, and teamwork while building confidence with others around me," said Ferrell.

Ferrell is a three-year day student from Rome who is involved in the Concert Choir and the Darlington Players. Off campus, he is an active member of Georgia 4-H, where he has served as NW District Senior Board vice president. He is a member of the 4-H performing arts group, Clovers & Company, and participates in the Leadership 4 Life program.

"I'm really excited about being able to meet new people outside of Rome while learning about how to become a better leader," said Pierce. "I hope that I will be able to further develop my leadership skills and better learn how to communicate with others while accomplishing tasks."

A 14-year day student from Rome, Pierce is a member of the Darlington Players, the varsity girls' basketball team, the "Y" Cabinet, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and serves as an advancement ambassador. Outside of Darlington, she plays travel basketball; is a member of the Chamber of Commerce's youth leadership program, Emerge; and volunteers with ESP Rome. Pierce has also served as an intern at the Floyd County District Attorney's Office. She is the daughter of Terri and Harry Pierce.
