Boarding #SeniorSpotlight: Sarah Kathryn McQueen

Maddie Chastain | April 11, 2026 | 9 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Sarah Kathryn McQueen, a four-year boarding student from Pike Road, Ala., who serves as the stage and costume manager for Darlington’s theater program.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Loyalty, community, drive

What song reminds you of high school?
"Vienna” by Billy Joel

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“Derry Girls”

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Zaxby’s

What house are you a member of?
Cooper House

What are you involved in?
House leader, stage and costume manager for theater, orchestra, Inkslinger coverage editor, Arts Council, Darlingtones a cappella group

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
Theater - every show we do, so much work and effort goes into making it the best it can be. Seeing it be put on stage is so rewarding and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The choir room - it’s a place that you can chill and it’s normally quiet during free, so you can get work done. Also all of my friends hang out there, so it’s just a fun place to hang out.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mrs. Johnson - she’s been one of the most supportive adults I’ve had while at Darlington. She’s been an ear to yap at, my favorite duty person, and a really great friend. I’m so lucky to have had her.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
The community.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
The friendships I’ve made over my four years. I’ve met people from all over the world and I don’t think I would have gotten that anywhere else.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I’ve fought my fears of talking to people and branched out as high school has gone on.

What is your dream job?
