Day #StudentSpotlight: Gabrielle Culberson

Alyssa Abrams | March 26, 2026 | 70 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Gabrielle Culberson, a four-year day student from Cartersville, Ga.,  who was selected as Darlington’s nominee for the Exchange Club's A.C.E. Award (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) and went on to win the area award, which honors high school students who have demonstrated exceptional perseverance, character, and achievement while overcoming significant obstacles.

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
Coach Shorey because he is extremely passionate and encourages you to be better just because you can.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus is Ms. Clark’s office because it’s like a personal hang out spot for me and my friends, and it’s the place where I usually meet my favorite people.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. Kinney because he’s very unique in his teaching in a way that almost forces you to be passionate about the subject,  and he made me care for things and have fun learning things that I never thought I would.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
My favorite thing about Darlington is the small forms of expression people have. Because we’re limited by our clothes due to uniforms, people express themselves with stickers, their shoes, their water bottle, their hair, and many other ways; and in a way it feels like many people wear their heart on their sleeve here.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
My freshman year when I was in the Soccer Academy, I remember being in the car with three seniors and a sophomore and none of us were from the same country, not even our coach. It was such a unique experience and I don’t think I could’ve had it anywhere else.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I have become much more confident in conversation. Before Darlington I would’ve never joined a conversation but now I feel like I can.

What is your dream job?
Geologist
