Day #SeniorSpotlight: Brecken Laliberte

Maddie Chastain | April 7, 2025 | 135 views

A Darlington student is made up of many things. None of which is average. We help our students develop their interests, passions and pursuits, because we believe every individual has something to contribute. We also believe that only when you're 100% you, are you 100% Darlington.

Here at Darlington, every student’s path is different. We think that's a good thing.

Let’s get to know Brecken Laliberte, a three-year day student from Rome whose Senior Ventures project is focused on expanding the lacrosse community, both within Darlington and the greater Rome area, by coaching the next generation of student-athletes, connecting teams from all levels of school, and holding communal events with local organizations.

When you think of Darlington, what three words come to mind first?
Diverse, Engaging, Home

What song reminds you of high school?
"1979” by The Smashing Pumpkins

What's your favorite show to binge watch?
“The West Wing”

What's your favorite restaurant in Rome?
Dark Side of the Moon

What house are you a member of?
The Finest Gentlemen of Neville

What are you involved in?
Lacrosse, theater, Discipline Committee, Model United Nations, Tiger Tutors

If you play sports, who is your favorite coach and why?
Coach Leezer is the the head coach of the varsity lacrosse team, where he's been the role model for our team on what it means to want to win, to play as hard as possible, to represent with poise.

If you are involved in fine arts, what is your favorite activity and why?
I've done theater as part of the crew and as an actor  for only my senior year and I couldn't have enjoyed it more. The friendships I've made through building, painting, acting, and just having a fun time will last a lifetime.

What's your favorite place on campus and why?
The Weight Room because I usually can go there on my own time and have one of the best high school weight rooms in the nation almost all to myself.

Who's your favorite teacher and why?
I'd say Mr. Shorey as he's not only taught me a difficult topic with very clear information and expectations, but also how to hold myself accountable and progress into college ready to take on a harder work load.

What’s your favorite thing about Darlington?
I've said it time and time again, being able to get a top-notch education, have access to outstanding health and fitness programs, and having great food every single day is the trifecta of a favorite thing. It truly allows the students to learn balance and understand a healthy schedule prior to college and work life. Other than that, my favorite single thing about Darlington is the community that surrounds us. I've had the privilege to gain friends from not only Darlington, but from neighboring schools and other organizations within the Rome community that I know will carry on beyond high school.

Describe an experience that you've had at Darlington that you couldn't have had anywhere else.
Anyone can say RUMPUS and I do agree with that as it truly is a unique thing to Darlington, but I'd like to add that being a day student that lives on campus, therefore meaning I have the same rights as a boarding student but still retain the rights as a day student, has been amazing. Being walking distance away from living with people from all over the world while also having the ability to go out into the Rome, Atlanta, and beyond community whenever I want is a privilege I don't think can be replicated anywhere else.

What are some of the ways you've grown since you first came to Darlington?
I've definitely improved my social diversity. I tap into different groups at Darlington to make new friends and connect with people from all over the world.

What is your dream job?
Realistically, something in law or engineering. What I'd like to do is find a way to play, commentate, or lobby for lacrosse.

If you have already committed to a college, please let us know which one you will be attending.
I haven't yet, but I've narrowed down my options down to 2-4 schools.
