The Darlington Community will come together on Friday, April 4, to honor and remember the lives of those affected by cancer at Light the Lake, a beloved Darlington tradition that has been on hiatus since the pandemic. Organized by seniors Atlas Kosedag and Charlie Patel as part of their Senior Ventures Project, this evening will will take place at the Lakeside from 6 to 9 p.m., with an Honor Walk at 8 p.m.
Members of the Darlington and Rome-Floyd communities are invited to be a part of Light the Lake, which will feature student musical performances, activities and more. Guests are invited to spend time that evening walking around the lake, which will be lined with student-decorated luminaries. Dinner will be provided by Flik Independent School Dining and other vendors will have snacks available to purchase, including senior Whit Molnar's treats from his business, Bossman Bakes, and the Fourth Grade Lemonade Stand.
"There are many reasons I'm excited to bring Light the Lake back, but the biggest would have to be its ability to build people up," said Kosedag. "It's a truly magical event, and I think it will further unite the Darlington Community and let those battling cancer know that they are not alone."
At 8 p.m, a bagpiper will lead the Honor Walk as the honorees' names are read aloud. If you would like to submit a name to be recognized, fill out this Google form or email Jordan West at jwest@darlingtonschool.org.
This event benefits two community partners, Cancer Navigators and Summit Quest, who both work tirelessly to support local families whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Light the Lake T-shirts are available to order, with all proceeds benefiting these partners. The shirts were designed by Darlington junior Ava Ann Woods. Shirt sales will close on Monday, March 24, at 8 a.m., to ensure they are delivered before Light the Lake. T-shirt orders can be placed at this link.
