My name is Angeline Myrie and I am a senior who has been at Darlington for the past 14 years. I have always been really interested in law and I want to pursue it as a career. I always wanted to learn more about it, but I felt there was a lack of content in the area of law I was interested in, so I decided to create a law-centered podcast that's educational and entertaining.
For my Senior Ventures Project, I have created a podcast about law called "Beyond the Brief" to educate the community on certain cases and laws. I went to the District Attorney's office in Rome to gain insight on my project and shadow the assistant DAs. They were even featured in my project to bring real life insight and knowledge to my podcast and to give it depth and add a sense of professionalism. I set up an Instagram account to promote my podcast, and here is the link if you are interested in checking it out! My first episode, following the infamous Cook County corruption case, focuses on the impact of corruption cases within the judicial system and how they are tackled by prosecutors. Joining me is Assistant District Attorney Leah Mayo ('11), who shared her insight on how corruption cases are handled and the checks put into place to inhibit abuse of the judicial system. Next semester, I’m hoping to continue posting more podcast episodes, invite a local female lawyer come to speak in chapel during International Women’s Month, and invite a black alumna to talk to Black Student Union about their experience as a lawyer during Black History Month. I’d also love to continue working with our local assistant district attorneys as they have been very helpful with my project.
