Design Student Spotlight: Ryn Wilson (’24)

Alex Johnson | February 6, 2024 | 360 views

Ryn Wilson ('24) is an avid graphic designer and is responsible for multiple well-known projects at Darlington, such as the 2022 and 2023 editions of Jabberwokk, the 2022 and 2023 editions of Inkslinger, and multiple other marketing and artistic projects. Hear more from Ryn in her interview below.

What do you like the most about the design process?

I like the creative process of coming up with different ideas and different ways things can look, and just thinking and editing things to come up with the best final product possible.

What do you look to for inspiration?

I really like asking teachers and those around me what they think about my work and how it could be better. I think it’s really beneficial to get other people’s input.

What is the most challenging part of designing in your world?

Designing for me can be really tedious at times, especially when you can’t quite get something to look on the computer or on the page as it looks in your mind’s eye. If you can push through the tedium, though, you can get a really good response.

What experiences have you had as a result of working through this design process with projects at Darlington or how has it benefited you?

I’m very thankful for all the opportunities I’ve gotten through design, like working on the yearbook, Inkslinger, the fine arts department, and the communications and marketing department. It’s really given me an opportunity to both serve the school and to grow in my experience and professionalism. It’s helped me to develop skills that will hopefully continue to be useful in my life.
