Part of our Senior Ventures project involves continuing the work of Ellie Allen ('23) and Shayali Patel ('23) to develop a sustainable recycling program at Darlington School. We have been working with Mr. Kevin Allen and the Darlington facilities team to make sure recycling bins and trash cans are in accessible locations throughout the school. We are co-chairs of the "Green Team" and "Sowing Seeds 4U" iPeriods and clubs. We meet weekly to collect recyclables and to work with Darlington's landscaping team.
The Green Team is a passionate group of students who organize exciting events, activities, and projects focused on environmentalism and sustainability. The Green Team iPeriod and club placed signs above the recycling bins. Members of the Darlington Community are asked to place empty plastic bottles, aluminum cans, paper, and broken down cardboardinto the recycling bins. Members of the Green Team are responsible for gathering the recyclables and taking them to larger blue recycling containers located throughout campus. Darlington is working with a company called Kochan Global to collect items in the larger blue recycling bins each week. They also provide our school with data regarding how our community is progressing with recycling, and we have been sharing that information with the community.
The Sowing Seeds 4U Club works with Darlington's lanscaping team to assist with planting flowers and maintaining the beauty of our campus. Next semester, we will be working with Keep Rome Floyd Beautiful to pick up trash on specific roads in Floyd County. Our mentors are Mr. and Mrs. Kinney, Ms. Kuckhoff, and Mr. Kevin Allen. We appreciate their support in this project.
