Welcome to Episode 132 of The Darlington Podcast!

In this episode, Director of Alumni Relations Vicki Vincent chats with Mac Gilliland ('08, LD '17), assistant professor of chemistry at Furman University. He shares about his experience as a boarding student at Darlington, his recent 15-year class reunion at Alumni Weekend and his career journey.

Vicki Vincent first joined the Advancement Office in 1995. Since then, she has held a variety of different roles including class agent officer and director of alumni relations. She is responsible for the development and management of alumni programs for Darlington, including the Alumni Council, the Class Agent Program and special events like Alumni Weekend.

Mac Gilliland was a four-year boarding student from Virginia. At Darlington, he was involved in Student Council, athletics and served as a dorm prefect. Following graduation, he attended Davidson College, where he earned a B.S. in chemistry and went on to earn his PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Gilliland recently received a $1-million grant from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation to create a prototype of a portable, lightweight mass spectrometer for analyzing chemicals in the air. He serves Darlington as a class agent and leadership team member of the Tiger Chapter of Greenville.
