Senior Kameron Fountain has been named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for February.

"A recurring theme in my conversations with Kam's present and past teachers has been his academic growth, particularly in his creative approach in elevating his projects and essays," said Kathy O'Mara, his college adviser and art teacher. "This is a young man who makes connections, has a grasp of both the details and the big picture, with an ability to imagine outcomes because of his ability to mentally picture how things will work ... With all areas of his creative and academic life, he has a natural ability to move from the brainstorming step to execution. This is in evidence as his teachers have referred to him as a leader and motivator in class discussions and group projects. This strength, so important in his creative work, has affected his academic work in a positive manner."

A day student who has been enrolled at Darlington since sixth grade, Fountain has taken 10 Honors and AP classes. He is a member of the Asian Union and National Honor Society. A talented artist, his work has been featured in The Inkslinger literary magazine.

This year, he was selected to participate in the Senior Ventures program, a year-long academic program built on a framework of leadership, innovation and community engagement. Through a proven self-guided exploratory process, seniors whose proposals are selected for this program work independently to develop a project that’s interdisciplinary in scope and is connective, performance-based, investigative, or entrepreneurial. In 2022, Fountain won bronze at the Georgia Technology Competition for a mobile app he created with fellow senior Grant Carpenter that featured a 2D game they designed called Xenopoint.

This fall, he will be attending Savannah College of Art & Design, where he has earned a $44,000 Academic Honors Scholarship.

The son of Kevin Fountain of Rome, Kameron will be honored at an Optimist Club luncheon on Feb. 28.
