Senior Elizabeth Richie has been named Noon Optimist Student of the Month for November.

"Elizabeth always seems to come to school with a smile on her face and a happy demeanor," said Dean of Student Life Brant Evans, who is also RIchie's college adviser. "I often speak to students about how they can help make another person's day better, not harder. Elizabeth is a perfect example of someone who is consistently having positive interactions with others to make their day better, and living out our mission of serving with respect."

A day student who has been enrolled at Darlington since sixth grade, Richie has taken 13 Honors and AP courses during her high school career. She is a member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Sociedad Honoria Hispanica, "Y" Cabinet and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Richie was selected to be part of this year's Senior Ventures program. Click here to see a video about her project, which involves writing a devotional book for young teens and pre-teens to encourage them throughout their faith journeys.

"Elizabeth is combining her two passions of writing and Biblical studies to develop this inspirational book," said Professional Development Coordinator Rebekah Kinney, who teaches the Senior Ventures course. "She is smart, talented, and a joy to work with each day, and I cannot wait to read her completed devotional book!"

Athletically, Richie is a four-year starter and two-year captain of the varsity soccer team and has received the Pillard Award, Offensive Player of the Year Award and Team Chaplain Award. She also plays Arsenal Rome travel soccer, where she is a five-year starter and three-year captain.

Outside of school, she is a graduate of the Rome Floyd Chamber's Leadership Rome program and a member of Younglife. She also enjoys volunteering with Extra Special People Inc., a nonprofit organization whose mission is to create transformative experiences for people with disabilities and their families, changing communities for the better. An active member of First Baptist Chuch, she serves on the church's Extended Family Committee and the Children's Committee.

The daughter of Betsy ('98, LD '18) and Brian Richie of Rome, Elizabeth will be honored at an Optimist Club luncheon on Nov. 8.
