My name is Allie Cordell and my Senior Ventures project involves organizing events and fundraisers for the Young Lives Rome ministry. Young Lives is a place where young mothers have the opportunity to enter the world reflecting the unconditional love of Christ, while also setting them up to be the mothers and parents that the Lord has called them to be. It is an opportunity for girls who might be going through a tricky stage of life to be encouraged and aided through out their journey. I want to make this process become easier and less stressful for not only the girls, but for Young Lives as a whole.
I selected this project because I want to build relationships with the girls while assisting them in a beneficial way. I have already been attending some of their meetings and learning how to support teen moms. I will be organizing a fundraiser to give the teen mothers and their children the opportunity to attend summer camp. I am also going to plan two events for them this year such as a breakfast and spa day. Additionally, I want to find a way to work with driver services in Rome to facilitate getting licensed drivers at Young Lives. Lastly, I want to try to get tutors or do fundraisers for tutoring to help the girls get their GEDs.
Senior Ventures is a year-long academic program built on a framework of leadership, innovation and community engagement. Through a proven self-guided exploratory process, seniors whose proposals are selected for this program work independently to develop a project that’s interdisciplinary in scope and is connective, performance-based, investigative, or entrepreneurial.
