We're excited to connect with our alumni through our new Darlington Connects series. Today we hear from Ryan Somerville (‘03) of Business Water Solutions.

Ryan Somerville (’03) graduated from the University of Alabama in 2007 and moved to Cary, N.C., shortly after to own/operate two Zaxby restaurants with his cousin Mark Brewster (’89). During his time in Cary, he married his wife Shanah. Ryan has two stepchildren; Ella and Olivia, as well as a daughter, Baylor Anne. After 10 years in the restaurant industry, he and his wife decided to move back home to Rome. Ryan connected with Darlington alum, Mike Barron (’98), who owns Business Water Solutions, and in December of 2019, he began a management position with the company.

Business Water Solutions provides a high-tech bottleless water purification systems for any size business in the Southeast. Darlington recently partnered with Business Water Solutions to install 20 bottleless water coolers around campus, including in the dorms. Each cooler has a 13-stage filtration process that provides the best, cleanest water available in its natural state—free from sediment, rust, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, toxic metals, bacteria, and other chemicals and impurities.

Ryan shared that an additional benefit of their system is that it cuts spending on plastic bottles and it saves space in areas where large water jugs are stored. "The biggest benefit of a BWS system is that they now offer a touchless water purification system," he said. "This provides our customers the assurance that their system is not being touched by multiple people or spreading germs, compared to a traditional water fountain that is constantly being touched by multiple individuals."

Ryan is excited to be back in Rome and is looking forward to getting connected with Darlington again. If anyone is interested in learning more about Business Water Solutions, check out their website at www.businesswatersolutions.com or email Ryan at ryansomerville@bwsholdings.com
