Kim Bell serves as Head of Regester House, current RUMPUS champions!

Playful, entertaining, and absolutely informative, our Get to Know series allows the personalities of the faculty and staff who make up the Darlington Community shine.

Kim Bell has been head of Regester House and community service coordinator for the past year. She holds a B.S. in Economics and an M.B.A., both from Shorter College. Kim has more than 20 years of experience in training and team building, most recently as CFO and human resources director at Fox Trucking. The majority of her career has been spent in finance and operations, and she has enjoyed the opportunity to focus on teaching and mentoring teams. Bell also spent 15 years managing the college intern program at multiple financial institutions and five years teaching management, leadership, economics, finance, and communication courses at Shorter College as an adjunct instructor.

Let’s get to know Kim even better in today’s installment of our Get to Know series!

Where did you grow up?
Dalton, Ga.

Tell us a little about your family...
My husband, Paul, is Darlington's database administrator. We met in college and have been married for 18 years. We have a daughter, Reese, who is a fifth-grader at Darlington.

Why did you choose Darlington?
Darlington felt like home from the moment I stepped on campus. The faculty and students are so friendly and welcoming that it just felt like the right place for my family.

What’s your favorite podcast?
“Beyond the To Do List” is great! Time management podcasts are a great way to procrastinate.

Who was your favorite teacher (and why)?
Mr. Kennedy, my middle school science teacher, always had a fun science experiment or an outdoor adventure that made it feel like we were playing hooky instead of learning.

My favorite movie is…
“The Bourne Supremacy”

What makes a good student?
Perseverance and a willingness to make mistakes.

If I could travel anywhere it would be…
Italy

E-book or hardcover?
Both

Beach or mountains?
Beach

The last book I read for fun was…
“The Nightingale” by Kristen Hannah

Four people I’d like to take to coffee…
Tom Clancy (favorite author), Jerry Seinfeld (favorite comedian), Alex Ovechkin (favorite hockey player), Neil Degrasse Tyson (favorite astrophysicist)

The best advice I ever received was…
Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.

My hobby is…
Reading, sewing, watching hockey, camping, jewelry making

Cats or dogs?
Dogs, definitely dogs (see below)

Only my friends know…
I am terrified of cats. Seriously.

When I want to crush karaoke, my song is…
“Hey Jude” by the Beatles, but honestly I'll never crush karaoke. I'm a horrible singer!

My favorite saying is…
“Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck.” ~ Dalai Lama

What I like most about Darlington is…
That I get to wake up and walk to work on this beautiful campus, interact with awesome students, and collaborate with co-workers that seem more like friends. Sometimes I forget that I'm working.
