Juniors Olivia Barfield and Marissa Joseph have been named semifinalists for selection to the 2018 Georgia Governor's Honors Program in the science and social studies tracks, respectively.
Nearly 3,200 students were nominated to the state-level competition and over 1,600 of those were named semifinalists for state interviews/auditions.
Barfield, a day student, is the daughter of Lori and Kenny Barfield of Rome. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Wind Ensemble, Stadium Band and the Darlington Program for Developing Young Leaders. She was also a stage manager for the fall play, "Out of the Frying Pan" and will be a stage manager for "The Addams Family" next month.
Joseph, a boarding student, is the daughter of Marie Joseph of Acworth, Ga. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Global Studies Program, the Community Service Executive Committee, Admission Tiger Experts and the crew team. She also serves as president of IMPACT Club, managing editor of The Darlingtonian, and is the founder of the Boys & Girls Club Mentorship Program.
The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program is a residential summer experience for gifted and talented rising high school juniors and seniors. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and that is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators and leaders. This year’s program will be held at Berry College.
