AISL Conference 2016: An Amazing Time in Los Angeles

Michael Jacobs | April 25, 2016 | 377 views

The Darlington librarians were in sunny California from April 12-15 attending an incredible conference put on by the Association of Independent School Librarians (AISL).

Some of the highlights of the trip were driving among the Hollywood Hills, exploring the spacious and famous Huntington Library gardens, and visiting some of the most lauded independent schools in California. The agenda of our annual conference focuses on touring local independent schools and their libraries; networking with colleagues to share best practices; and participating in professional development sessions that target:

·Observing different pedagogical perspectives on the value and role of the library with a focus on trends in education and society

    · How schools and libraries use and maximize space with innovations in architecture and technology

    · Utilizing the arts and culture of a city area

I know I speak for the whole library department and the Darlington faculty in general when I say that professional development in any capacity is one of the most fulfilling parts of a career in education. Continually improving knowledge and skills is the best way to serve students by being students ourselves.
