Several students, faculty and alumni will take part in Friday's "An Evening on the Runway" to benefit the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation and bring attention to heart disease and heart health. The fashion show, presented by Redmond Regional Medical Center, takes place at the Historic DeSoto Theatre on Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m.

The lineup of local models, numbering over 60, will include familiar faces from the Darlington Community comprised of several members of the Class of 2016, other students in the Upper School, current parents, alumni, Assistant Director of Day Admission DeLean Brandon, and Head of School Brent Bell. Each model will showcase the latest spring fashions and talents of local boutiques and other small businesses like B. Stevens Salon, Blue Sky Outfitter, Greene’s Jewelers, Lodge 210 Menswear, Mel & Mimi, Stella Blu Cosmetic Boutique, Top Hat, Whistle Britches, and many more.

“We are very grateful to our students and faculty that have really committed to this event, giving of their time for the show and its rehearsal, while many would prefer to go out of town for vacation and college visits during their winter break,” said event co-chair Rozanne Collins. “That’s community service.”

The Calhoun, Ga. resident joins several other Darlington parents who have volunteered their time and resources to help bring the fundraiser to life.

The event will be hosted by special guest Heather Branch, DJ with Atlanta radio station WSTR-FM 94.1/Star94, and will feature a high-energy light and sound show from Parker FiberNet.

The runway showcase will be an opportunity for the community to unite to raise funds for one of Downtown Rome’s iconic structures while also bringing attention to heart health. A special segment within the show will focus on and feature members of the Greater Rome community that have been affected by heart disease, as well as local cardiologists, survivors, EMTs and other medical personnel.

All proceeds raised from "An Evening on the Runway" will help with the continuing renovation and restoration efforts of the Historic DeSoto Theatre, which was built in 1929 as the first theater in the South with the capability of showing talking movies. Since the parent foundation’s inception in 2008, the theater has received a massive facelift including a renovated auditorium, with ongoing modernization taking place both inside and outside of the building.

“It’s such a great theater and such a landmark—It has come a long way in the last few years and continues to act as the venue for so many events in our community,“ added Collins.

The fashion show counts itself in the lineup with other cardiac health-related initiatives currently underway in Downtown Rome for the month of February, including the Rome Community HeART Project, also sponsored by Redmond and additionally by the Rome Area Council for the Arts.

Admission into "An Evening on the Runway" starts at $17 for general seating. Click here to buy tickets.
