Through the Eyes of a Tiger: An Interview with Mr. Pieroni

Joe Pieroni has taught math at Darlington since 2000 and coaches varsity basketball and JV volleyball. He holds a B.S. from the University of Dayton and an M.S. from Walden University. Mr. Pieroni was my advisor for three years and my precalculus honors teach my junior year, and I must say he is a great teacher and wonderful contributor to Darlington. He and his wife, Angela, dean of studies for ELA-8, are the parents of current students Gianna (‘17) and Jonathan (‘19).

How long have you been at Darlington?

This is my 15th year at Darlington.

What's your favorite Darlington memory?

There are too many wonderful memories! I don’t even know where to start. But I would say I love when students in general say or think they can’t do something and then excel at it, in and out of the classroom. I love how it builds self-confidence within the student. It actually happens often, which is the best part!

What are your top three favorite Darlington events?

I love move-in day at the beginning of every school year. It’s exciting to see the campus come back to life and I love seeing my students again. Of course I love any sporting event or musical play. It’s great that our students are so well rounded and because the Darlington community is like a family to me, I love to support the students. And finally, I love Christmas on campus. From Darlington Christmas to Lessons & Carols, Christmas is by far my favorite holiday on campus.

What are three words to describe Darlington?

Hmmm…unique, diverse, energetic are probably the best words.

What's your favorite thing about being a Darlington teacher?

I love seeing students succeed, learn, and thrive, in and out of classroom. I love watching a kid find his or her niche as a freshman, and then pursuing that up into senior year and even college.
