Sophomore Stephanie Ward broke the school record in the 1600 meters on Friday night at the girls' state track and field championship in Albany, Ga. Her time of 5:06.12 bettered her own personal record by 14 seconds (she ran 5:20 at the Region meet in April), and was under the previous school record by 8 seconds (Kirby Cross ran 5:14.41 in 2003). Stephanie competed in five events at state, also placing 4th in the long jump and 2nd in the 800 meters, and anchoring both the 400 meter and 1600 meter relays.
Also competing at the State meet for Darlington:
Lauren Hooper placed 9th in the 3200 meter run.
Mamie Johnson placed 15th in the 3200 meter run.
Paige Mavity placed 7th in the pole vault.
The 400 meter relay composed of Jazlyn Green, Emily Swafford, Emma Parham, and Stephanie Ward placed 7th.
The 1600 meter relay composed of Kinslee Clevenger, Jade Cox, Emily Swafford, and Stephanie Ward placed 4th.
