Darlington to host RACE Rome’s Super Sprint and Youth Triathlons in September

Novice and seasoned triathletes of all ages will return to Darlington School on Sunday, Sept. 22, to raise money for The Open Door Home through two races presented by RACE Rome and Rome Orthopaedic Center. Participants may compete in Rome’s first Super Sprint distance triathlon at 8 a.m. or the 3rd Annual RACE Rome Youth Triathlon, which will follow at 12:30 p.m. Both races are USAT sanctioned.

“RACE Rome is thrilled to be partnering with Darlington again,” said Sarah Husser of RACE Rome. “The campus’s landscape and amenities make it the perfect location for both adult and youth triathlons, and the picturesque setting assists in attracting racers from across the Southeast. RACE Rome greatly appreciates Darlington’s continued support and commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyle choices for individuals of all ages.”

The sprint race features a 300-yard out-and-back lake swim, 11.1-mile scenic bike ride and 2-mile run through Darlington’s campus. This is the perfect race for seasoned youth and novice adults. Relay teams are welcome and encouraged. Race coordinators are happy to pair you with teammates if needed. Registration is $65 for individuals and $85 for teams until Aug. 16, $10 more after.

In the youth race, ages 7 to 9 will complete a 50-yard lake swim, 2.3-mile bike on Cave Spring Road and half-mile run. Ages 10 to 14 will swim 100 yards, bike 4.6 miles and run 1 mile. The course is closed to traffic and lifeguards will be in the water overseeing the swim. Registration is $35 until September 9 and $45 after. All youth racers will receive a medal.

Registration for both races closes Sept. 17 and there is no race day registration. Proceeds benefit The Open Door Home, and again this year, the tri club, group or school with the most participants will receive a $250 donation to the charity of their choice.
