Senior Grace Greene has been named a Clemson National Scholar, which includes a full, four-year scholarship valued at over $170,000 as well as a National Scholars study abroad experience during the summer after her freshman year.

"The naming of the finalists was quite a challenge, as there were many highly qualified candidates," said Doris Helms, provost of Clemson University. "Considering Grace's academic background, leadership potential, and performance with the interviews on National Scholars Weekend, she was identified as one that Clemson University would be proud to have in its premier National Scholars Program... We are extremely excited about her taking part in such a unique academic opportunity, and we look forward to her joining the Clemson Family this fall."

Darlington's 2013 STAR Student, Greene is an AP Scholar who has taken 19 AP and Honors courses. She is an academic prefect and a servant leadership liaison, and also enjoys playing golf and tennis. She was named Student of the Year as a sophomore at Eagle’s Landing High School in her hometown of McDonough, Ga., and has received Darlington’s Sewanee Club Award and E.L. Wright Award for AP Biology (awarded to the student with the highest average).

"I'm absurdly excited about getting this scholarship," Greene said. "There were so many essays and interviews and weeks of waiting that I was overwhelmed when they told me I'd been selected. I reread the scholarship letter every couple of hours for the first few days because I just couldn't believe that I'd gotten a full ride to my dream school. My parents and teachers have spent so much time and effort teaching and supporting me for the past four years, and I am incredibly thankful to them and to Clemson University for giving me this opportunity."

Greene enjoys volunteering her time at community organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club, McHenry Primary School, Rome Little Theater and Rome Action Ministries. She was recently named a Life Hero in the Noon Optimist Club's annual Students of the Year competition.

Grace is the daughter of Robin and Gerald Greene of McDonough, Ga. She was also accepted to the University of Alabama, Furman University, Georgia Tech, the University of Maryland and the University of Virginia.
