Farewell to Suzanne Davidson

For all of us at the Lower School, it has been a bittersweet week as we said our goodbyes to Suzanne Davidson, who has been a very loyal and competent executive assistant for over seven years.

On Tuesday, she was honored at our assembly by some students who recalled how she was so helpful to them over the years. They then sang “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” It was very gratifying to see all the students who came through the office on Wednesday to say goodbye with hugs. It was truly a special moment for Suzanne.

Many parents stopped by throughout the week to wish her good luck. In Suzanne’s own words, “I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes, cards, flowers, cards, and gifts. They were very much appreciated and have made me feel very loved. My time at the Lower School has been very special – full of good memories, lots of laughs, and definitely some good stories of success for our students. There is a real camaraderie among the teachers and staff that I will miss along with the parents and students. You have made my time here very special and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Suzanne's store, “Oli and Ve” officially opens on Friday in historic Roswell. If you are in the neighborhood, she would love you to stop in and say hello.

Suzanne’s replacement is Wendy Payne, who is no stranger to the Lower School. She has been working with Suzanne for the past week to ensure a smooth transition. The students were introduced to Wendy this past week. Please stop by to welcome her to the Lower School.

Mark your calendars! The Upper School Servant Leadership team, directed by Reba Barnes, will host Light the Lake 2012, a round-the-clock relay, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday, March 30. This annual event honors and celebrates the lives of cancer patients and survivors.  Profits from this year’s event will benefit the Rally Foundation, which supports childhood cancer research. A T-shirt sale will be organized to support this event. Parents who are interested can order from the forms that will be sent home with the students. All orders must be received by March 21.

Angie Milford is organizing a spring running club for students in K-4. The club will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 to 3:45 p.m. All participants must be picked up at 3:45 or they will be sent to Extended Day. If your child will be participating, please e-mail the classroom teacher and Wendy Payne by 10 a.m. on Monday, March 5.

The Tri for the Kids youth triathlon is scheduled for Sunday, May 6. To help your child prepare for the swimming portion of the event, Beth Smith recommends the Three Rivers Swim Club mini swim sessions during the month of March. Please see the link on the Lower School Announcement Page for further information.

We received good news this week that Jim Daniels will be returning back to work on Monday, March 5.

Late Start is scheduled for March 7. Parent volunteers will be in the classroom and at drop-off points starting at 7:30 a.m. There will be no DarTrek – students must report directly to their classrooms.

Spring break is scheduled for March 10-18. School will reopen on Monday, March 19.
