Outstanding athletes in basketball, wrestling, swimming, diving and cheerleading were recognized at the
Winter Sports Assembly held Monday, March 3 in Morris Chapel.
In varsity basketball:
Junior Tyshawn Good of Queens Village, N.Y., received the Van Enloe Boys Basketball Award, given by Van P. Enloe Sr. to the team’s most valuable player.
Senior Tyson Betts of Rome received the Hustler Boys Basketball Award, given to the player who gives 100-percent effort in both practice and in contests.
Senior Derricus Ellis of Rome received the Jim Van Es Award, given by Mr. and Mrs. Max M. Kimball to the most outstanding rebounder.
Senior Brittany Hightower of Rome received the Van Enloe Girls Basketball Award, given by Van P. Enloe Sr. to the team’s most valuable player. She was also recognized as the Free-Throw Leader Champion and the player with the most rebounds this season.
Senior Sara Pate of Rome received the Spirit Award for Girls Basketball, presented to the team member who has contributed the most in spirit and loyalty.
Senior MacKenzie Sidwell of Rome received the Huffman Girls Basketball Award, established by Darah Huffman (’95) and Anna Huffman (’96) to be given to the varsity girl player, as selected by her coach, who has given 100 percent effort to her team and exemplifies the phrase “paying the price” for excellence in basketball.
Junior Lauren Dulaney of Rome received the Meggie Beth Erwin Class of 2003 Hustler Award, given to the player who gives 100-percent effort both in practice and in contests.
Senior Kate Waters of Rome received the Student-Athlete Award and was recognized as the player with the most assists and most steals this season.
Sophomore Tiffany Perry of Summerville, Ga., received the Practice Makes Perfect Award and was named the “Intangible Queen.”
Senior Lauren Mauer of Rome received the Stopper Girls Basketball Award.
In wrestling:
Senior Korey Pitts of Silver Creek, Ga., received the Best Wrestler Award.
Sophomore Kent Caraway of Cartersville, Ga., received the Wrestling Spirit Award, presented to the team member who has contributed the most in spirit and loyalty.
Junior Jett Wayne Puckett of Rome received the Most Improved Wrestler Award.
In swimming:
Junior Alexandra Dodd of Rome and sophomore Scott Travis of Cedartown, Ga., received Most Valuable Swimmer Awards, presented by the Darlington Alumni Association.
Senior Natalie Brock of Rome and sophomore Jason Lu of Taipei, Taiwan, received Most Improved Swimmer Awards.
In diving:
Senior Clint Monteith of Rome received the Grant Muller Most Valuable Male Diver Award.
Senior Landon Watters of Rome received the Megan Bevill Most Valuable Female Diver Award.
In cheerleading:
Senior Mary Beth Montgomery of Rome received the Berry Cheerleading MVP Award, established by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Berry and their daughters, Lowry and Natalie, to be given to the cheerleader from the varsity football, basketball or competition squad who has exhibited the overall highest qualities of spirit, leadership and athletic ability.
Senior Summer Jones of Rome received the Lauren Muller Senior Cheerleading Award, established in 2002 by Dr. and Mrs. Richard Muller Jr. in recognition of the football, basketball or competition cheerleader who exemplifies outstanding school spirit, sportsmanship and leadership.
