Darlington students, families, friends and alumni are invited to spend 12 days this summer traveling through Spain and Portugal with faculty members Eva Marie Burns (’79) and Gwen Gibbes. The trip will depart June 2, 2008.
Each day is packed with activities. After two days of traveling from the United States, the group will land in Lisbon, Portugal. The tour will stop at various landmarks around the city, including St. George’s Castle, the historic Alfama district and the Monument to the Discoveries. The group will have a free afternoon to visit more of Lisbon’s attractions.
On day four, travelers will drive to the Algarve Coast, where they will spend two nights surrounded by beautiful beaches. During this leg of the trip, they will have the opportunity to visit Cape St. Vincent and Lagos to discover the rich history of early explorers such as Prince Henry and Christopher Columbus.
Next, the group will travel to Spain, the city that is home to Carmen Figaro and Don Juan, Seville. Over the next two days, they will watch a Flamenco show and travel to many historical sites such as Torre del Oro and Alcázares Reales. The following day, they will continue their adventure in Granada City before checking in for the night in Costa del Sol.
Travelers will take an excursion to Gilbraltar on day nine. The group will enjoy a cable car ride to the summit of the rock, where they will be able to see Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean Sea. After visiting Apes' Den and St. Michael's Cave, they will return to Costa del Sol for the evening.
On day ten, they will travel to Cordoba, where they will enjoy a guided walking tour of unique sites such as the Great Mosque and its Patio de los Naranjos.
