Darlington senior Anna Krueger has been named a recipient of two major competitive scholarships that will help fund her tuition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill over the next four years.

After a five-month interview process, Krueger was one of only 70 students worldwide to be offered UNC’s Morehead-Cain Scholarship, worth a total of $140,000.

“Anna was chosen as part of this very select group because she has consistently used her gifts and abilities to achieve a high level of personal and academic success,” said Charles E. Lovelace Jr., executive director of the Morehead-Cain Foundation, in a letter to Krueger. “She is an exemplary member of her community, motivating others to action and leading in enthusiastic and creative ways. All of these qualities are a clear match for the Morehead Program – a unique, life-changing educational opportunity that combines a full scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a comprehensive experiential learning and leadership development program.”

The heart of the Morehead-Cain experience is the Summer Enrichment Program, which consists of four diverse summers designed to help scholars understand more about the world and how they can make a difference in it. These four experiences – outdoor leadership, public service, international research, and enterprise – provide the framework for scholars to gain confidence, independence, global awareness and hands-on experience.

Additionally, Krueger was named one of only 8,200 Merit Scholarship winners nationwide out of a total 1.4 million applicants. She will receive the National Merit University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Scholarship, which is sponsored by UNC and valued at $1,000 per year.

Krueger has a GPA of 101.4 with 10 Honors and 11 AP credits. While at Darlington, she has earned E.L. Wright Awards in English I, II and III, Spanish III, and the Harvard Club Book Award. A member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Cum Laude Society and Mu Alpha Theta, Krueger is an AP Scholar, a University of Georgia Merit Scholar, a Furman Scholar, a National Merit Semi-Finalist and a Morehead Nominee.

While at Darlington, she has been a member of the Math Team, Ladies Chorale, Prom Committee, video yearbook staff, High School Leadership Rome and Senior Leadership Team. She also serves as admissions ambassador, head day prefect, Science Club treasurer, Spanish Club secretary, Honor Council secretary and House Senate vice president. Krueger is also a four-year member of the varsity lacrosse team and cheerleading squad. As a freshman, she was co-captain of the junior varsity squad and received the Coaches Award. She has since been named UCA All-Star Cheerleader as a member of Darlington’s varsity squad.

Outside of Darlington, Krueger has volunteered at Kids Day, Emmaeus House Christmas, Relay for Life and as the summer art director for the Boys & Girls Club. She is also an acolyte at St. Barnabas Church. She is the daughter of Dr. Kirk and Anne Krueger of Trion, Ga.
