The new facilities of the Huffman Center are off to a solid and busy start. Beyond athletics, the Center will be hosting events, tours, and even dances. It is quickly becoming a staple for not only Darlington, but also the community outside our gates.
As for athletics, varsity and junior varsity volleyball tournaments and games have already been held in the gym. All varsity swim meets have been moved from other schools to the Center because of our excellent facilities. A girls varsity basketball tournament is scheduled for November 15, 16, and 17.
Other recent events include a Rotary Club meeting for over 200 people, a college fair representing 56 schools, and the Rome Parents/Students dinner. The Huffman Center has also captured the attention of local groups and organizations, prompting the many tours being given to show our newest addition to the community.
“Things are very busy,” said Jerry Sharp, athletic director, “People are very pleased and the students really enjoy it.” For the students’ use and enjoyment, the Huffman Center is open on Saturdays and Sundays afternoons. The weight room is open from 1p.m. until 3 p.m. and the pool from 3p.m. until 5p.m.
