Members of the Class of 2005, you have now joined 8,373 distinguished graduates of this prestigious school. You now embark on the exciting next phase of your life journey, undergraduate college or university education. Come August and September you will experience a diaspora that will take you to 59 different institutions of higher education in 18 states and five countries.
Your parents, this school, and your own hard work and strong character position you for success in college and beyond. You have excelled in academics, the arts, and athletics. You have cared for and respected each other. You have given to others with significant public service. The fact that your excellence is no secret is evident from the $2.17 million in merit scholarships that have been offered to try to entice you to enroll in various colleges and universities. Well done my friends! We have every confidence in you and will follow your progress with close interest.
On behalf of the Darlington School Community, I thank you for all you have done for this school. You are a stellar class and you have provided fine leadership to your school this year. Thank you for your excellent class gift. For those who may not know, the Class of 2005 has raised funds for a plaque that will be installed in front of the magnolia tree to my far right. It will “balance” the plaque honoring our founders, the Cooper’s, which is to my immediate right. The plaque will read: “In Honor of Darlington School and 100 Years of Excellence given by Darlington’s Centennial Class 2005.” Barton Lowrey raised the necessary funds for this plaque in about 72 hours! Barton, after you graduate from the University of Georgia, there is a place for you in Darlington’s Advancement Office. Finally, thanks also, to your parents for sharing you with us, and for paying for it!
