Demerits

Demerits will accumulate throughout each semester, and consequences will be assigned as follows:

Disrespect to Person or Property: Students who receive a notice for disrespect will receive an automatic work detail.

3rd Demerit: On the accumulation of the third demerit, a student will be assigned work detail (see "Penalties" for description of work detail).

6th Demerit: On the accumulation of the sixth demerit, a student will be assigned work detail. Students are required to serve work detail on the day they are assigned.

9th Demerit: On the accumulation of the ninth demerit, a student will be assigned the next available Saturday school (see "Penalties" for description of Saturday school).

12th Demerit: On the accumulation of the twelfth demerit, a student will be assigned a second Saturday School. The Student Life Office will meet with the student and contact parents following the second Saturday School.

15th Demerit/Work Detail Threshold: On the accumulation of the fifteenth demerit or a combination of seven work details and/or Saturday schools, a student will meet with the Discipline Committee, likely be placed on probation, and likely serve at least one day of in-school suspension. Other consequences may be recommended by the Discipline Committee. In-school suspension will involve isolated academic time and service to the school from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Dean of Student Life will meet with the student and communicate with parents.

18th Demerit: On the accumulation of the eighteenth demerit or eighth work detail/Saturday school, parents and students will meet with the Director of the Upper School. The school and parents will partner together to determine if continued enrollment is in the best interest of the student and/or school.

Disputes over Demerits: Any question over a demerit must be resolved within a week’s time or the demerit will stand.

Students with Zero Demerits: As a reward for good behavior, students who earn zero demerits or disciplinary violations by the beginning of May will be given the privilege of one calendar week's worth of Tiger Day dress.
