Student Leadership

Darlington strives to empower each member of our community to reach inside themselves to learn with passion, act with integrity, and serve with respect. Students have over 100 opportunities to serve in leadership positions at the Upper School. Primary student leadership areas are outlined below.

Discipline Committee
Student membership on the Discipline Committee will consist of the following: four senior representatives, three junior representatives, and two sophomore representatives. Two freshmen representatives (one boarding and one day) will be added to the committee in the second semester and will be non-voting members of the committee during the remainder of the year.  One additional member from each class will be added at the end of each school year by class election. Adequate representation of both day and resident students will be maintained. Students running for election must have the overall support of the faculty as determined by the Dean of Student Life. Underclassmen representatives will likely matriculate at the end of each school year pending the approval of the committee’s faculty members and the Dean of Student Life. The student president of the Discipline Committee will be elected by the members of the committee and must be a senior with at least one year of experience on the committee. The faculty members of the Discipline Committee are volunteers appointed by the Dean of Student Life Students with questions about this position should contact Brant Evans, Dean of Student Life.

Honor Council
The student-led Honor Council is comprised of representatives from grades 9-12 assisted by a faculty advisor. The purpose of the Honor Council is two-fold: to increase students’ understanding of the Honor Code and to preserve its integrity by giving justice to any student under suspicion of dishonesty. Students interested in being on the Honor Council have the opportunity to apply each spring. They are selected by a panel of students and faculty. Students with questions about this position should contact Justin Bruce, Honor Council advisor.

Student Council
The Student Council is an organization comprised of the Student Body President and three elected representatives from each class. Working closely with all student organizations, the Student Council serves as a liaison between students and the school administration. Students with questions about this position should contact Chad Woods, Upper School Director.

Student Activities Committee

The Student Activities Committee is comprised of 14 students, one representative from each of the six houses and two students from each grade.  The SAC is designed to foster school spirit and a sense of community.  Students with questions about this position should contact Randy Smith, Head of Summerbell House.

The club participates in the annual Rome/Floyd County International Festival, sponsors dinner and movie nights throughout the year, and hosts seasonal gatherings. Community Service Committee
The Community Service Committee is comprised of Upper School students who create, organize, and develop service opportunities in the Rome community as well as around the world. These students are very passionate about the many opportunities that Darlington has to lend a helping hand. Students with questions about this position should contact Terar Everhart Community Service Coordinator and Head of Regester House.

Spiritual Life Committee
The Spiritual Life Committee is comprised of students, both day and resident, who have a desire to enhance the spiritual life of all students on the Upper School campus. Student Leadership in the Houses
Each of Darlington’s six residential houses has five or more student leadership positions, such as head prefect, academic prefect, and house manager, to name a few. This allows students the opportunity to play an active role in both their residence hall and in the culture of the school. Students interested in being house leaders should talk with the Heads of House.
