Athletic Programs and Policies

Darlington School competes in athletics as a volunteer member of the Georgia High School Association. As such, Darlington abides by the Constitution and By-Laws of the GHSA. Coaches, parents, and students may review the GHSA rules and regulations at www.ghsa.net

One such regulation that we would like to highlight is the GHSA policy on heat and humidity.  Each day before and throughout practice our Athletic Trainers will take wet bulb measurements and notify the AD and coaches if practice needs to be altered due to heat and/or humidity.  These decisions are based on the guidelines set by the GHSA and can be viewed here.  Additional safety information regarding concussion protocol and sudden cardiac arrest, among other topics, can also be found on the GHSA website here.

Because Darlington School competes in the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), no new student except a first-year ninth-grader, domestic boarding student,  or one whose parents have moved their residence to Floyd County will be eligible for varsity competition; and under the Eight Semester Rule, no student who has completed eight semesters (four years) of high school will be eligible. The first-year student may speak with the Athletic Director about qualifications for a hardship under Georgia High School Association rules. Many first-year students, however, compete on junior varsity teams that play regular schedules. Hardship Applications must be a case of true “hardship,” which is defined as “beyond the control of the school, the student, and his/her parents.” See GHSA Constitution & By-Laws, Article IV, Section 5, Hardship, Items #B and #B-4.
