Jordan West

Librarian, Upper School

Jordan West began serving as the Upper School Librarian in. 2022. She is a college advisor and also serves as the coordinator for Senior Ventures, a unique year-long academic program. Jordan works to promote reading through programs and activities, hosts classes on literacy skills, and assists students in navigating research databases. She holds a B.A. in English from Truett McConnell University and an M.Ed in School Library Media from the University of West Georgia. In her previous experience, she worked in student life as well as university relations. Jordan was awarded Darlington’s Brown Faculty Award in 2024.

Summer Professional Development: Talking Books at the ALA Conference

Librarians with a growth mindset must intentionally seek out opportunities to interact and connect with librarians on a larger scale beyond the walls of their individual institutions. The American Library Association Annual Conference gave me and Pre-K to 8 Librarian Mary-Kate Fowee a chance to do just that at the largest national professional library conference this summer in San Diego, Calif.

Professional Development Spotlight: Georgia Education Technology Conference

Thanks to a generous grant from the Thatcher Faculty and Staff Development Fund, I was able to attend the Georgia Educational Technology Conference last year. As a first-year Darlington faculty member and first-year librarian, I was eager to gather as much information as I could from school library media veterans. Many of the ideas I incorporated into Darlington’s Upper School Library throughout the year were from seeds planted at GAETC. I knew that I wanted to attend again in 2023 — and this time, I had the opportunity to write the grant myself and explain just how valuable my experience at the conference had been.
