David has taught Middle School history since 2014, in addition to serving as head boys’ lacrosse coach. He holds a B.A. in Social Sciences from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he also earned his Teacher Certification. David also has an M.Ed. in Secondary School Administration from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. Most recently, he taught world history at The Walker School in Marietta, Ga. He has 35 years of experience teaching and coaching football, lacrosse, basketball, baseball and track. He and his wife Anna, a learning specialist at Darlington’s Upper School, have two children in college.

This spring, my classes took on challenging assignments requiring the "Big 3" of project-based learning: communication, collaboration and compromise. Eighth-graders had to analyze the changes over time of America at war, as seventh-graders researched American expansion. Documentaries were then created to share what they learned.

Role Reversal: 7th Grade Teaches American History to 10th Grade ESL Students

On Tuesday, Mr. Yarborough’s seventh-grade History classes visited the Upper School history department to present to my tenth-grade history class of ESL (English as a Second Language) students. The seventh-graders had a tough job ahead of them–to teach the United States Constitution to a group of students from China, Korea, Japan, Germany, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.

Yarborough to teach Middle School history, coach lacrosse

David Yarborough is bringing his 37 years of teaching and coaching experience to Darlington this fall as he takes on a new role as 7th and 8th grade history teacher at the Middle School. He will also be the head boys' lacrosse coach.
