Qualifications

  • Willingness to model the distinct mission of Darlington School.
  • Undergraduate degree in music education or performance and/or acceptable transcript that demonstrates competency in music and instrument instruction
  • Broad knowledge of and experience with current best practices in music curriculum, instruction, and performance
  • Genuine appreciation and passion for teaching children and a desire to work with all types of learners
  • True commitment  to building and maintaining an instrumental program and her/his own professional development
  • Positive and contributing member of the professional community
  • Extraordinary communication and presentation skills
  • A desire to work in a highly collaborative environment
  • Comfortable with change; exhibits flexibility

 

Responsibilities

  • Director for Upper School Stadium/Concert Band
  • Teach 6th-8th Band
  • Teach 6th-8th Grade Jazz Band
  • Teach Upper School Wind Ensemble
  • Teach 4th and 5th grade band
  • Prepare and direct the pit orchestra for the winter musical
  • Contribute to the extracurricular life of the school and the fine arts department
  • Promote a supportive and positive classroom and school environment
  • Prepare students for performances throughout the year based on the school calendar
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty
  • Participate in GISA and GMEA events as appropriate for individual students and ensembles and in coordination with the school calendar
  • Manage budget and maintain an instrumental library and classroom inventory
