Senior Kate Scott was selected as Darlington School's nominee for the Rome Exchange Club's Youth of the Year. This award is given to a student who excels in all areas of student life including academics, extracurriculars and community service.
"Picking one student from the Senior class to nominate as Youth of the Year is not an easy task," said Chris Allen, Upper School counselor. "Kate Scott, however, stands out as a student who is well rounded and excels in everything she does. Kate is a wonderful student, athlete and performer. She is also heavily involved in the community through church events, Young Life and other volunteer programs. However, the main thing that led me to nominate Kate is her strong character. Kate is known in the Darlington community to be a positive influence in everything she does. She has a strong work ethic, a competitive drive and a willingness to be kind to everyone she meets."
A day student who has been enrolled at Darlington since kindergarten, Scott has taken 19 Honors and AP classes. She has serves as head day prefect in Regester House and president of the Y-Cabinet. Active in both the athletics and the arts, Scott is a member of the varsity cross country and track and field teams and serves as a student worship leader and member of the Darlingtones a cappella group.
This year, she was selected to participate in the Senior Ventures program, a year-long academic program built on a framework of leadership, innovation and community engagement. Through a proven self-guided exploratory process, seniors whose proposals are selected for this program work independently to develop a project that’s interdisciplinary in scope and is connective, performance-based, investigative, or entrepreneurial. Outside of school, she has served as a senior counselor at Camp Skyline Ranch for Girls, where she planned activities and led groups of girls ages six to 16.
She is a recipient of the Georgia Certificate of Merit, the Kipp-Tillman Memorial Award, the George Eastman Young Leaders Award and several E.L. Wright academic awards.
The daughter of Jennifer and Ryland Scott, Kate was honored at an Exchange Club luncheon on Feb. 17.
