The fourth-graders launched their Future City Project by learning about the engineering design process as well as the management cycle. As a culminating activity, they were given a Lego design challenge. Students were given a tray of random Legos and had 15 minutes to design a structure. Throughout the process we analyzed challenges they faced, opportunities for communication, as well as how to construct something with limited and changing resources.
This is one activity used to lay the foundation for designing and building a city for 100 years from now. They will eventually design and build a futuristic city that makes people's lives better.
