Students in grades 6-8 will soon take the stage in the fine arts department’s production of “Into the Woods JR.” in the Zelle Black Box Theatre, April 20-21. Performances will take place on Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
Be careful what you wish for as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical. “Into the Woods JR.” features all of your favorite characters: Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.
“‘Into the Woods JR.’ is a dream come true for me as a director,” said Kimberly Human, Pre-K to 8 music teacher. “Not only is this a show that I have wanted to do for a long time, but the cast has been a dream to work with. They have all worked so hard, and we are so excited to share our production with you.”
The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever.
There is no cost for tickets, but due to the limited seating available in the Zelle Black Box Theatre all patrons are asked to reserve seats for this event in advance.
