Bradley Pierson ('05) will return to his alma mater this fall to serve as as an assistant athletic director and head boys' basketball coach.
"We are super excited to have a man like Bradley Pierson stepping into the position to lead our men's basketball program," said Athletic Director Eddie Guth. "His energy, character, and leadership along with his love and understanding of Darlington made him a perfect fit. I am excited for our young men, our school and community."
Pierson holds a B.A. in Economics from Sewanee: The University of the South and an M.Ed. from Berry College. He has eight years of experience coaching at the collegiate level and has served as head men's basketball coach at Sewanee for the past year. During the 2016-17 season, his team led the Southern Athletic Association in scoring defense and rebounding margin.
Pierson has also taught physical education for the last six years and, during his five years as Sewanee's assistant coach, served as recruiting coordinator for the men's basketball program.
As a Darlington student, Pierson played basketball for the Tigers and ran track and cross country. As a senior, he earned a basketball scholarship to Sewanee, where he was a four-year letterwinner, Order of Gownsmen and 2008-09 team captain. He finished his Sewanee career in the school's top-10 in three-point field percentage and three-point field goals made.
"I feel extremely blessed to be able to return to Darlington and help Coach Guth continue to advance Darlington Athletics," said Pierson. "I especially am excited for the opportunity to lead the boys' basketball program. During my time as a student at Darlington, Coach [Jim] Van Es had a profound impact on my life, and I hope I can have the same impact on future Darlington students and players."
The 2005 Darlington alumnus and his wife Carla, a graduate of Shorter University, have one son, Gabe, 9 months.
